One of the least expensive ways to add a new look, freshen your home or give new life to a cherished object is by applying paint. Painting an accent wall, an item or an entire room, paint is relatively inexpensive and can really change the look and mood of a space or item.
Painting time can vary depending on the size on the project area especially if prep work is needed before actual painting begins, such as patching holes, sanding or applying primer. Allow drying time for any prep work before applying paint.

Paint color is quite personal. If you are looking to resale or rent in the near future, take that into consideration as you select a color, otherwise, choose your favorite hue and have fun with colors that make you smile.
If your paint project is interior or exterior, select paint specific to those areas. Anticipating high traffic in the areas you will be painting? Keep this in mind as some paint bases are easier to clean than others. Use this same rule if your paint project is an object such as a cabinet. Read the instructions specific to your project to ensure a quality outcome.
Paint supplies specific to your project are very important. Items such as drop cloth, painters tape and brushes should be researched prior to painting. Using the proper painting tools are just as important as selecting a color. *Tip 1: Wet and pat dry your brushes prior to use leaving them damp. This step will help paint easily adhere to surfaces. *Tip 2: Store paint brushes in a plastic bag and place in a freezer until a project is completed.
If this all seems overwhelming, it doesn’t have to be. Consult a paint representative at your desired retailer. They are usually an excellent place to start and a good source of information. It could be helpful to take a photo of your project with you to reference as you shop for supplies.

If you are unsure of a color, take home color swatches or paint samples to help you decide. You want to be certain that the color that makes you smile does so at night as well as during the day. Keep in mind that paint tends to dry darker than it appears in the container.
Lastly, if after all your careful preparation, you apply a color that you doesn’t warm your heart, it’s only paint and can be changed.
